ABF-INJ

Description

  • ABF act as site directed antioxidant, by replenishing thiamin dependent enzymes and hence reduce oxidative stress in cerebellar cells that prevents neuro-degeneration

  • Thiamin significantly reduces the raised glutamate levels due to alchohol withdrawal in chronic alcoholics, thus limits the neurotoxicity

  • Thiamin can prevent high output cardiac failure due to accumulation of pyruvate & lactate in cardiac myocytes

  • Thiamin is an essential adjunct in preventing Refeeding Syndrome, a complication of TPN, especially in cases of dialysis patients, chronic alcoholics & in patients with systematic derangements.

  • Routine use of IV thiamine is recommended in patients of Delrium tremens as wernicke’s encephalopathy & korsakoff’s syndromes are disastrous in these patients and can remain unrecognized
